The Helping Hand 🤝 is a web platform that aims to connect those within the community who are in need of an extra hand with local volunteers.
Users in need, for example, who are looking for a kind someone to help complete day to day tasks such as change a light bulb or rake the leaves can post a request for help on this website, and get matched with a neighborhood volunteer. This platform is geared towards serving elders within our community, and we have made it a priority to make the usage of this tool as frictionless as possible.
This project was completed as a team — I worked as a Designer and Front End Developer along side two other engineers who took point on the Back End Development. We followed Agile software development practices to manage our project. Follow my work as a ****Developer and the technologies I learned to use through this project by following the page topdown :)
When the team came together for this project, we wanted to choose an end goal that would challenge us to create something for an audience that is “not like us.” Empathizing with those who are in different circumstances than ourselves, those who have different needs and experiences than ourselves is a skill that requires intentional practice and a conscious effort to challenge our internal biases.
After some group ideation, we collectively agreed to create this platform to serve elders, who are a different age group than us college students. With our target user demographic being narrowed down, we then began thinking about the following points.
